MoU2
The primary purpose of this MoU is the protection of the public through a commitment to ending the practice of ‘conversion therapy’ in the UK
Signatory organisations agree that the practice of conversion therapy, whether in relation to sexual orientation or gender identity, is unethical and potentially harmful.
Ethical practice requires the practitioner to have adequate knowledge and understanding of gender and sexual diversity and to be free from any agenda that favours one gender identity or sexual orientation as preferable over other gender and sexual diversities. It is essential for COSRT’s clinicians to acknowledge the broad spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities and gender expressions and to update their knowledge and practice in line with this document.
COSRT’s statement on the publication of the MoU reads:
‘At COSRT we have advocated the inclusion of gender in the MoU from the beginning, and are therefore delighted to see this revised version in publication. We look forward to ensuring that the standards of this inclusive MoU are upheld by all of our members’
