On 25 May 2018 the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaced the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and will become part of UK law if we leave the EU.

THE COSRT STATEMENT

COSRT is a membership organisation for those who work, or have an interest in, the field of sex and relationship therapy. COSRT takes the protection of your personal data very seriously and we are in the process of preparing for the EU General Data Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on 25th May 2018 and replaces the current Data Protection Act. These changes in the law will provide you with greater transparency and control over your personal data. While you are registered with COSRT as a business, and because many of you practice from private premises, COSRT is mindful of the need to protect your data accordingly. We will be updating our privacy policy, along with our practice guidance notes, to ensure that there is continued compliance with the data protection regulations. We will also be updating the practice documents regularly and encourage you to review them periodically to ensure that you remain up-to-date with any changes.

COSRT will:

• Hold your data securely and only use it within the organisation, except where there is a partnership agreement in place e.g. with UKCP or CSRP.
• Not share any of your data with a third party unrelated to our clinical work and our duty of care in the protection of the public.
• Use your data to contact you by email, post, telephone, or text messages as appropriate and indicated by you.
• Only contact you on membership matters and to update you on clinical practice, unless you have expressly indicated you wish to receive other contact.

What this will mean for you as a COSRT Member:

As a provider of clinical services, we will continue to send you “Update”, the Journal of Sex and Relationship Therapy and such bulletins related to practice, membership and professional issues that we believe will aid you in your clinical work and help you to continue to deliver the best possible services to your clients. We will continue to update our guidance notes on best practices, which you should be aware of

We also need to be transparent about our members to the public so that when they are seeking sex and relationship therapy or treatment, they can check the membership status of an individual therapist and be assured that the member is bound by the COSRT Codes of Ethics. As such we will maintain a visible membership list to aid the public in this process.

The new regulation, however, requires COSRT to obtain specific permission to contact you with updates on CPD events, training and to include you on the website “Therapist Listing” as available to provide sex and relationship therapy. Please indicate below under the new data regulations your express permissions in these two matters for COSRT to hold your data and contact you.
