London Foundation Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy

This is a part-time, one-year, theories, attitudes and skills-based course that will devote itself to the practical aspects of counselling, whilst providing space for personal reflection and development.

The course aims to acquaint students with and inform them of the fundamental counselling skills such as reflective listening, mirroring, empathy, use of silence, and appropriate interventions.

Students will learn how a therapeutic relationship is different from other relationships and how the counsellor needs to be aware and make use of their own thoughts and feelings without allowing them to intrude into or influence a counselling session.

You will also be taught about some of the major theorists in the field. A broad range of current approaches will be taught by our faculty of experienced facilitators and practitioners. This will provide students with an understanding of different counselling and psychotherapy theories.

This will, we hope, prepare those students who are considering going on to further counselling/therapy training so that they are better informed and can decide which approach they would like to adopt and take as the basis of their further training or, which approaches they might use when training in a more integrative approach.
