A nurse by background, I work in sexual health and ran a nurse-led sexual function clinic. I’m a nurse representative in BASHH (British Association for Sexual Health and HIV) Sexual Dysfunction Special Interest Group. I have special interest in working with women who have experienced Female Genital Mutilation, and situations where sexual organs have been affected as a result of medical/surgical intervention or injury. I have found it important to appreciate the mixed origin of sexual difficulties, and to notice when and where pharmacological and psychological interventions are needed and applicable. As sexual difficulties seldom exist in isolation, addressing relationship issues provides couples with skills to communicate their needs, fears and hopes better.
