Joanna Coker

Joanna is a Counselling Psychologist registered with HPC, a BPS member, a BACP accredited psychotherapist, a COSRT accredited psychosexual/relationship therapist and an accredited clinical supervisor. She has worked for 30 years in the NHS with individuals, couples and families in a variety of clinical and counselling roles.
She is a Clinical Director of The Letchworth Counselling Centre where she heads a team of 20 counsellors, psychotherapists and psychosexual therapists. Jo oversees the clinical training of 30 trainees on post-graduate training courses, and offers consultancy and supervision to allied medical professionals including the Hospices. Within this service she is responsible for the development and monitoring of clinical standards and policies, in order to ensure consistent and professional practice. Alongside this, she has started, and developed, the Letchworth psychosexual service. This now has grown to a significant service which has a countrywide reputation and provides a major base for the placement and specialist training of psychosexual therapists in the UK. This service works with individuals and couples of all sexual orientations and is registered on the Pink Therapy Directory.
Clinically Joanna especially enjoys working with vulnerable mothers and babies, and as a qualified nurse and specialist health visitor, she is able to combine these specialisms and bring a systemic approach to the work.
Jo is the national Professional Standards Manager for COSRT (The College of Sex and Relationship Therapy, formerly BASRT) and is responsible for clinical standards of the college, complaints as well as being part of their media team. Particular areas of expertise that she is often asked to offer comments on are: Sex and relationships, Psychosexual therapy, Obesity and psychological function (her research interest), Mothers, babies and relationships (including postnatal depression), Professional Standards in counselling and psychotherapy.
